Police Log: Man Arrested on OUI Charge, with Unrestrained Child in Car

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. All arrests are reported. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, June 11

3:07 p.m.: A caller said several cars on Prospect Heights were parked and blocking cars into driveways. The cars were gone when police arrived.

3:31 p.m.: Eight or nine youths were in the road on East Walnut Street, yelling at vehicles driving by. An off-duty officer said he would speak to the youths.

4:36 p.m.: A woman told police her ex-husband will not stop calling and bothering her over a shared custody issue. He was sitting in front of her house earlier Tuesday. Police responded but classified the report as a domestic argument.

5:12 p.m.: Milford Police were told by Mendon Police that they were pursuing an erratic driver into Milford on South Main Street. The vehicle was abandoned on Thayer Street in Milford. The driver fled on foot, wearing sweatpants, last seen in the area of the Verizon building on Water Street. Officers established a perimeter. An officer spotted a man running toward Water from Bancroft. It was not the suspect. A Highway Department employee told police a white vehicle with tinted windows was driving slowly up and down the side streets. An officer stopped the vehicle. It was a man listening to his police scanner who throught he would help. He was sent on his way. A witness told police that a man was forcing his way into a house on Draper Park. Police took the man into custody, and Mendon took him back to their town.

6:53 p.m.: A caller on Congress, near Milford School of Dance, said cars were parked on the side of the street that says "no parking."

8:20 p.m: Wendy's asked police to shut off the Dilla Street entrance to the restaurant because it is flooded. Police contacted the Highway Department to block the entrance.

9:24 p.m.: Polcie received several calls reporting a crash on Medway Road in front of CVS and Friendly's. The crash involved a Toyota Camry and a Honda Fit. No one was injured. Police arrested the driver of the Camry: Bolivar Ortega, 29, of 22 Churchhill St., Apt. 1, Milford, was charged with OUI liquor, child not in car seat OUI, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and wanton or reckless conduct creating risk to a child.

11:59 p.m.: A couple was fighting in the parking lot on Senate Road. Caller said they were no longer in the parking lot, but that this has been happening often. Police could not locate the people. The caller gave no description.

Wednesday, June 12

12:13 a.m.: Police checked out a man in a car on Central Street. The man had pulled over to answer his phone and then fell asleep.

12:32 a.m.: A woman said her purple mountain bike had been stolen on Orchard Street.

8:10 a.m.: A woman reported her car had been broken into on Poplar Street overnight.

10:44 a.m.: Police were dispatched to Muriel Lane at Nancy Road for a report of grass being dumped in the road. Police found about two handfuls of grass. No issue.

10:49 a.m.: A former employee of Pizza Chef was hanging around and acting suspiciously, police were told. The ex-employee keeps coming in and out of the building. Police located the man and told him to stay away from his ex-employers.

12:31 p.m.: Police reported a possible suspicious vehicle in front of Brookside Elementary School. An officer checked and the driver checked out. He was the son of a teacher.

12:39 p.m.: Police assisted the state Department of Children and Families in removing a child from a home.

2:32 p.m.: A woman said her husband's car was vandalized on Chestnut Street overnight.

4:28 p.m.: Wires were reported down on Paula Road, taken down by a truck.

4:38 p.m.: The animal control officer responded to a report of a dead cat on West Fountain Street.
