Police Log: Power Plant Struck by Lightning, Suspicious Package

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. All arrests are reported. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 8

2:59 p.m.: A man walked in to police headquarters and reported he had received a suspicious package, wrapped in plastic bags, and addressed from the Board of Health. Police contacted the Board of Health, who did not send it. Police checked but there was nothing suspicious inside.

5:06 p.m.: A Chevrolet Impala was repossessed at Lowe's.

5:47 p.m.: A caller reported a man in his 40s was passed out at the Sunoco on South Main Street. An ambulance took the man to Milford Regional Medical Center.

6:00 p.m.: A woman reported a light and a fan were turned on at a Janock Road property, on a screened in porch, and ashes from a cigarette were left behind. Possibly someone was on the porch overnight without permission. Homeowners requested property checks overnight.

6:20 p.m.: Several police detectives responded to Dunkin Donuts on South Main Street. George Wenck, 23, of 2 Lyndon RD., Apt. 2, Milford, was arrested on two warrants.

7:41 p.m.: A lightning bolt struck a tree on High Street. Firefighters responded.

7:49 p.m.: A caller on Old Cedar Street reported his car was broken into some time in the last few hours. A window was broken and things were taken from the Buick.

7:57 p.m.: A caller reported a suspicious, loud noise from the Milford power plant run by International Power America. Police responded and confirmed a lightning strike at the plant which caused noise and steam to emerge from the stack. Firefighters responded.

8:36 p.m.: Hopedale Police reported a woman went into the Hopedale Mart with blood on her shirt and said that it belonged to her child. Police requested a well-being check on the child. Milford Police responded, and everything checked out OK.

10:14 p.m.: Fraud was reported.

11:24 p.m.: A bicycle was stolen on Grant Street, from a porch, a caller reported.

Tuesday, July 9

12:21 a.m.: A car alarm was sounding near the Portuguese Club. Police attempted to notify the owner but were unable to contact the person.

12:27 a.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on East Main Street and Medway Road, police arrested Thiago Alexander Souza, 23, of 55 Lawrence St., Milford, on a warrant.

1:04 a.m.: A caller said his upstairs neighbor was making a lot of noise, and was possibly intoxicated. Police responded but all was quiet.. They spoke with the caller.

7:27 a.m.: A woman reported a 14-year-old boy did not want to go to school.

9:13 a.m.: A Lincoln Zephyr was repossessed on East Main Street.

12:40 p.m.: A man walked in to police headquarters to report a woman who has a restraining order against him keeps texting him. He has proof of the text messages and phone calls. He has not responded to her. Police advised him to talk to his lawyer.

1:40 p.m.: A caller on Water Street said he had an issue with a cable company working at his home.
