Fire hydrant flushing begins this month in Natick.

NATICK, MA—Here's why water may be running down your street. And sure, the kids can play in the stream.
The Department of Public Works, Water Division is conducting its Fall 2017 Hydrant Flushing Program throughout the town, which will be done Sunday through Thursday nights during the months of October and November.
Flushing is necessary to improve water quality and ensure proper hydrant operation, explains the department.

"We attempt to schedule flushing in a manner that minimizes customer disruptions," said the announcement. "This may cause some discoloration/sediment in your water. If so, run your cold water faucet (preferably tub or outside spigot) until the water runs clear."
