Maybelle The Obese, Pot-Bellied Pig, Finally Finds A Home

With a lot of coordination, and a six month ordeal behind her, Maybelle found a forever home.

MASSACHUSETTS—For six months, Maybelle the one-year-old obese pot-bellied pig has been chronicled on local and national media, as well as social media, with help from the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Finally, that journey ends happily, as Maybelle's got a home with a West Bridgewater couple that saw the pig on the news. .

“We had a pig before for 20 years, so we know what we’re getting into,” said Gail Pepe in a statement. “We wanted to help her because we know she was abused. We have a spot for her and (even) built her a house.”

Maybelle went to her new home this past weekend. The couple had an enclosure constructed for her, and consulted with veterinarians to continue her progress, said the Boston ARL.

When Maybelle arrived at ARL, she weighed around 200 pounds due to a poor diet and being indoors. It made her immobile, uncomfortable and depressed. And unhealthy. She was given six small meals a day at ARL, and she lost about 25 pounds. At that point, she was able to move better, and got more outgoing, said the announcement.
