Natick Schools Receive Leadership Award from DA

Superintendent of Schools Peter Sanchioni announced at last night's School Committee meeting that the Natick Public Schools had received the Martin T. Meehan Educational Leadership Award for Bullying Prevention.

The award, given by Middlesex County District Attorney Gerard Leone, was the result of a large collaborative effort between multiple school administrators, teachers and local organization Natick Parents Against Bullying & Cyberbullying.

"There were two areas that distinguished us, I think," Sanchioni said, mentioning the work they do teaching students about empowering and the Natick Parents Against Bullying & Cyberbullying.

With School Committee chairperson David Margil proudly holding up the plaque for all to see, Sanchioni insisted that some of the people who have been most influential in the district's work to combat bullying and teach students how to feel empowered step to the microphone to speak.

Christine Guthery, the founder of Natick Parents Against Bullying and Cyberbullying, said, "I'm so proud of [this award]. I want to thank the community, of course, but the schools as well."

Guthery went on to say that, while everyone has the same common interest in keeping their children safe, everyone also has competing interests at the same time.

"The schools and parents have collaborated through the conflict," she said.
