Photographer Gregory Banks Featured in Library Gallery

Photographer Gregory Banks brings his exhibit, "One and Many," to the Friends’ Gallery at the this month.

In his photographer’s statement, Banks states:

"An object, usually lifeless & inanimate, can develop a particular personality when grouped. Alone, pictures of wigs or gateposts or parked cars can appear simply like an item in a merchant’s catalog. Amassed in context or with others of their kind, these grouped objects acquire presence. Like actual living things, grouped objects convey a mood, a sentiment, a message in the way that they relate to each other and to the viewer. Sometimes, it is as if they are a flock of birds or school of fish that move together, their reaction to the environment telling a story that comes through in the image.

"This ‘animation’ of objects finds harmony and counterpoint in images of solo subjects. A hummingbird, a sleeping child, a seagull easily display their own personality. These images are placed in a particular order with the other photos to juxtapose similar moods, imparting emotions from the animate to the inanimate."
