Columbus Day: What's Open, What's Closed in Needham?
Trash and recycling will be delayed one day next week because of the Monday holiday.

Columbus Day Fun Fact: Columbus Day became a national holiday in 1937, under President Roosevelt. The day had been celebrated for centuries before, though, mainly in the form of religious celebration or parades honoring both Italian Heritage and Christopher Columbus.
Before you head out on Columbus Day, Oct. 12, check the list of what’s open and closed on the holiday.
Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed (no meetings).
Schools: Closed.
Libraries: Closed.
Banks: Open at bank’s discretion.
Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only.
Supermarkets: Open.
Convenience stores: Open.
Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion.
Restaurants, bars: Open at owner’s discretion.
Liquor stores: Open at owner’s discretion.
Trash, recycling: Delayed one day.

Columbus Day Fun Fact: Originally Columbus Day was observed every October 12, the date Columbus discovered the New World. In 1971 it was changed to the second Monday in October.
