Needham Clergy Host Boston Marathon Vigil

Candles, prayers and thoughts offered by members of all the town's faiths at last night's Healing Service.

 

Many of Needham's faithful, and a number of the town's faiths, met to promote healing after the incident on Monday.

Last night, the Needham Clergy Association held a Service of Healing for our in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy, which was hosted by The Congregational Church.

During the multi-faith service, clergy representing the various congregations around town shared thoughts from their traditions, sang songs, and lit candles to remember the three dead and over a hundred injured in Monday's blast. 

Deacon Holly Hartman shared the prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, which says,

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,Where there is hatred, let me sow love;Where there is injury, pardon;Where there is doubt, faith;Where there is despair, hope;Where there is darkness, light;Where there is sadness, joy.

 

Dr. Abdul Cader Asmal encouraged attendees to "pray God eradicates the hate from those who did this."

The event closed after the assembled vigil held candles as Cantor Marcie Jonas sang "Oseh Shalom." Following a final blessing, the crowd sat as a Bach piece played on the organ.
