Needham Studios Open This Weekend

Needham Open Studios begins this weekend. What to expect and where to go.

As part of the on-going collaboration between local businesses and artists, several Downtown merchants are opening their doors to some of the local artists participating in the May 4 and 5 Needham Open Studios. You can see the artists’ demonstrations, browse and shop Needham Open Studios in the Downtown, where there is plenty of parking in the public parking lots, including Chapel Street parking lot, and along Chapel Street and Great Plain Avenue. Come enjoy the cluster of artists and artisans, shop the participating local merchants (and our other independently locally owned businesses!), and dine in one of our great local restaurants.

On Saturday May 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday May 5th from 12:00-4:00 p.m., you can meet the following cluster of artists in the Downtown at:

  1. 1089 Great Plain Prudential Advantage Real Estate 
    Abbi Canney: real and imagined landscapes in oil and monoprintb.
    Berline Chao: hand-folded fabric or paper origami boxes, card holders and bookmarks.
    Sally Meding: vibrant semi-abstract contemporary watercolors and textural impressionist acrylics and mixed mediad.
    Anne Nydam: original limited edition woodcuts and rubber block prints ofanimals, stories, plants, industrial sites and all sorts of interesting things,including children’s books, notecards, and posters
  2. 117 Chapel Street Perennial Designs
    Devra Bailin: dichroic fused glass, decorative and stone beads, and Swarovski crystal bead hand-crafted jewelry; handcrafted quilts; Sanibel seashell frames; and other crafts. Devra gives her work away as a thank you for contributionsof various amounts to HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF Northeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund) to benefit Zack Weinstein, a Needham resident rendered quadriplegic in an accident almost eight years ago.

    Elise Miller: handcrafted custom leather woven jewelry using semiprecious beads,glass and mixed metals
  4. 1451 Highland Avenue Taylor’s Stationery
    Jerry Jaeger: art photography featuring flowers and landscapes and other subjects

  5. 1 Chapel Street Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage
    Greg Banks: photography.
    Artists from the Walker School: Coldwell Banker will also be hosting artwork by children from the Walker School

  6. 1026 Great Plain Avenue The Center Café


At the end of the day, stop into The Center Café (open for dinner only) and seethe artwork of several Needham Open Studios artists hanging on the walls.
