Needham Police, Fire To Mark September 11 Anniversary

Needham will remember 9/11 quietly this year, on the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that shook the nation and took the lives of at least three Needham residents.

Last fall, the town to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

No major events are planned in Needham for this year; however, members of the Needham Police and Fire departments will be marking the date with special ceremonies, according to Sandy Cincotta, assistant to the town manager.

Members of the Honor Guard will be participating in a short service on Friday, Sept. 7 at the 9/11 Memorial at the State House in Boston.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Needham Police Department will remember the 2001 attacks with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center in New York City.

The will also be with a moment of silence.

Needham selectmen are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Sept. 11 and will likely observe a moment of silence in memory of those who died in the 9/11 attacks, including Needham residents Susan L. Blair, Lisa Fenn Gordenstein and David E. Retik.

A plaque memorializing the Needham victims can be found, along with a tree planted in their honor, in the small garden at the corner of Highland Avenue and Rosemary Street, near .
