Needham Police Log: Wild Weekend

Thursday, March 26

  • Police stopped a vehicle on Central Avenue after it hit the curb after midnight. After speaking to the driver, a Medfield 27-year-old, Kurt Dankers, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. 
  • At about 8 a.m., police were dispatched to highland avenue for a reported two-car crash. Police learned that a 34-year-old man from Milford was driving unlicensed, and was summonsed to Dedham Disttrict court for driving without a license and following too closely. 
  • A tractor trailer truck hit the railroad gate at Great Plain Avenue as the gate was coming down just after 8 a.m.. One of the gate arms broke off. The operator was cited for failing to yield at a railroad crossing.
  • On arriving on Marked Tree Road, where there was a reported disabled vehicle, police noted that the tires on the passenger side were flat. The driver reported that he had not hit anything in the roadway, and that there was a scratch on the car door which had not been there before. 
  • A Newman Street parent reported that her son's instrument was taken from the building. It was last seen on Feb. 11, and faculty were notified, but it has been unable to find it. Police were informed at about 3:30 p.m. on March 28.
  • 7:45 p.m., a dog walker reported several youths inside one of the Camp Malcolm buildings on Pennsylvania Avenue. On arrival, police saw several kids inside, and as officers made their presence known, they attempted to flee. Several were ultimately caught. One of them, Taylor Green, 17, of Needham, was arrested and charged with trespassing, being a person under 21 with alcohol, resisting arrest, and assault-and-battery of a police officer. 

    Police are also seeking complaints against three 17-year-old women from Needham, and two 17-year-old men, also from Needham for trespassing and possessing alcohol while under the age of 21. Two 16-year-old Needham women are to be charged in Dedham Juvenile Court.

Friday, March 29

  • Police stopped a vehicle with a defective plate light at about 12:30 a.m. on Chestnut Street. After speaking with the driver, police ultimately arrested and charged Deane Baker, 20, of Needham with possession with intent to distribute a class D drug. 
  • At about 10:15 a.m., police responded to an address on Doane Avenue with a report of a larcent from a house construction site. After speaking with some employees, police learned that about five reels of copper wiring and some equipment had been taken from the residence in the last two days. Police are investigating.
  • Bike reported stolen from the front yard of a Wendling Road residence. A neighbor got a license plate of a suspect car, whose registered owner reported that she gave the car to her grandson. The grandson reported that he took the bike and dumped it at Perry park. Police are seeking a complaint for larceny. 
  • Before 6 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Highland Avenue with a reported defective exhaust. While speaking with the driver, a 23-year-old West Roxbury man, Malek Salameh, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. 
  • There was a reported large house party, with underaged attendees, on Evelyn Road. Upon arrival at the address, police found one person left in the house. After investigating, they will summons a 17-year-old Needham woman to court for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Saturday, March 30

  • 1:30 a.m., police pulled over a suspicious vehicle on Second Avenue. Three men from Newton, one aged 18 and two aged 16, were inside. After searching the vehicle, the passenger in the rear, one of the 16-year-olds, was arrested and charged with possession of a class D substance, a class E substance, and a civil marijuana citation. 
  • A caller reported that his sister's bike was either lost or stolen while in the wooded area near Hemlock Gorge. 
  • Police arrested and charged Stephen Dunsford, a Hyde Park resident, aged 26, with operating under the influence of alcohol at about 2:30 p.m. on Mount Vernon Street. Police had initially responded to a crash at the Great Plain Avenue intersection, but determined it was a disabled vehicle. 
  • Animal Control will follow up with a report from an Armen Road resident that, at about 5 p.m., a jogger was chased by a dog, but not bitten. 
  • 1:15 p.m., a reisdent of Chestnut Street reported that she had been the victim of an identity theft.
