Needham Power Outage Sparked By 15-Year-Old Driver Evading Police

Police say a 15-year-old driver struck a pole and a garage door after taking off when an officer tried to pull him over.

NEEDHAM, MA — A 15-year-old from Lawrence crashed a car into a utility pole and a garage door in Needham just before 2 a.m. Wednesday night.

Police say an officer was attempting to pull the car over for a violation, but as the officer got was getting of his cruiser the driver took off.

Taking off after the car, the officer says the driver took a right onto Greendale Avenue, saying he lost sight of the car until hr came across loose wires down on the road.

The officer says he then found the car smashed into the garage door of a residential home shortly after. He says he then saw driver get out through the passenger door, and take off into the woods.

Shortly after, police say they found the driver in a nearby neighborhood. The 15-year-old had sustained a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the 15-year-old was operating a car while impaired by marijuana, and officers say he had an open container.

The operator of the car will be summoned to Dedham Juvenile Court for failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, OUI drugs, unlicensed operation of a car, open container law- alcohol, and other additional charges.

Greendale Ave. between Parker Road and Nevada Road were closed for hours due to the wreck.
