Rockets Review: 400 Career Points for Girls Lacrosse Star, Top-10 Unbeaten and More

Girls LAX Star Surpasses 400 Total Career Points!
On Monday, #4 Needham Girls Lacrosse traveled to State #1 Westwood and gave the home squad everything they could handle, coming up just short in a thrilling 10-9 loss.
In the game, Senior Captain Maddie Stenberg broke the 400 total career point mark! Below is a write up from head coach Beth O'Brien:

This week marked an exciting week for Needham Girl's Lacrosse with a hard fought battle against #1 Westwood and an important milestone being reached. Needham went shot for shot and battle for battle, but came up short losing to Westwood 10-9, with final goal being scored with only 75 seconds left in the game.
Needham came back from two down to tie the score 9-9 late in the game, behind two outstanding goals by junior, Kira Oberle. Westwood then took advantage of a turn over to seal the win. Senior Captain Maddie Stenberg ended the day with one goal and two assists, bringing her career point total to 402 (243 goals and 159 assists).

Maddie has been an important part of the success of the program, making everyone around her more confident and more dangerous in the attacking end. Two years ago, Maddie's brother Will broke his career 400th point mark for NHS and is now playing Division I at Albany.
Needham finished the week with impressive wins over Bay State Conference teams Milton and Norwood bringing their league record to 9-0. The team will wrap up league play this week with Senior Night on Tuesday vs Newton North at 7:00pm on Memorial Field and then on Thursday at Dedham.
Needham Top-10's Remain Unbeaten in BSC Play!
Boys Lacrosse (#5) and Boys Volleyball (#3) are ranked in the Globe top-10 as well and both teams also remained undefeated in BSC play last week, as LAX took down Milton and Norwood and Volleyball dispatched of Weymouth and Wellesley.
Senior night for Volleyball will be Friday night at 6:45pm vs Natick in the A Gym. Both teams will step up the competition this week, as Boys Lacrosse will travel to #2 Duxbury on Monday and top-15 Newton North on Tuesday, with Volleyball traveling to tough league opponents Norwood (Monday) and Newton North (Wednesday).
Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams Take Down Framingham!
On Tuesday, the Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams each took down Framingham in the final home meets of the season. The Rockets took part in the Andover Invitational on Saturday and will gear up this week for the BSC Championships at Weymouth HS on Wednesday. Softball Uses Late Inning Rally for 7th Win!
On Saturday, Rockets Softball hosted Newton South and although the visiting Lions got on the board first with 2 runs, Needham battled back to tie the game 2-2, and then in the bottom of the 7th (last inning), got a runner to 3rd base, who took advantage of a passed ball to score the game winner! With the victory, the team moves to 7-8 on the season. The girls will look to two big road games this week, Weymouth Monday and Braintree Wednesday, to improve on an already strong spring!
Tennis Goes 2-1
The Boys and Girls Tennis teams both went 2-1 on the week, mirroring each other in the W & L columns. Each got victories over Walpole and Weymouth and then both fell to Brookline on Friday.
NHS Boosters Welcome Patriots and More Events
On Wednesday night at 7:00pm, the NHS Boosters will once again welcome in members of the New England Patriots to the NHS A Gym, as they will be taking part in the Annual Boosters Celebrity Basketball Game!
Confirmed Pats include Danny Amendola, Brandon Bolden, Ryan Mallett and Shane Vereen, with more to be named this week! Tickets at the door are $20.00 and funds go to support the NHS Boosters! Come see the Patriots take on the likes of Needham teachers, coaches, former-athletes, police officers, DPW workers, and other Town residents! Vendor tables will be set up and there will be plenty of food and fun for all ages!
Other events will also be held Friday and Saturday, with a 5th Quarter Event being run for all NHS students on Friday night in the B Gym starting at 8:00pm ($2.00 at the door to help support the Freshman Class) and the NHS Baseball Team running its annual 50-Inning Alumni Event starting at 5:00pm on the Memorial Diamond. In addition to a silent auction, former Red Sox, Bill "Spaceman" Lee is scheduled to pitch in the game!
