Suspicious Calls, Mailbox Crash: Needham Police Log

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

April 17

2:00 a.m. - An officer responded to a report of a car crash at the intersection of South and Chestnut streets. A check of the area revealed recent damage to a mail post and mailbox at a nearby residence and there was no vehicle operator located at the scene. After a brief investigation, it was confirmed that the registered owner of the vehicle had been operating the vehicle at the time of the crash. As a result of this investigation, the registered owner, a 38-year-old Norwood woman was issued a summons for a marked lanes violation and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

9:25 a.m. - An officer observed a vehicle east on School Street and fail to stop for the stop sign at the four-way stop and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of School Street and Dedham Avenue. After investigation a town bylaw ticket was issued to the operator for possession of marijuana.

11:15 am. - An officer responded to a Manning Street residence for past identity fraud. The victim/resident stated she observed several transactions on a PayPal account made in her name and she also noticed her email had been hacked by an unknown party. The matter is under investigation.

12:15 a.m. - An officer took a walk in report of an attempted fraud. The reporting party stated that he received a fake check from an interested client, which he believed was intended to steal money from him. The matter has also been reported to the bank whose name is attached to the check.

4:30 p.m. - An officer spoke with a man at a Marked Tree Road address about suspicious telephone calls. The man stated that he is being harassed by phone by another man. He was advised to possibly seek a harassment prevention from the Waltham District Court, as he lives in Waltham.

9:30 p.m. - An officer responded to a Meadowbrook Road address for report of fraud. A credit card had been opened using the victims personal information. The credit card has been canceled and the victim was advised on how to protect his identity.


April 18

3:30 p.m. - An officer was performing selective enforcement in the area of School and Lincoln streets and stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation. A 32-year-old man was issued a summons for operating after suspension and a stop sign violation.

4:45 p.m. - An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Dedham Avenue. The operator, a 42-year-old Dedham man, was cited was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with revoked registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
