5 things You Need to Know Today: June 3 (UPDATE)

Boston Jewish history, joint School Committee and Board of Aldermen

UPDATE: The program on Boston's Jewish history (No. 1 below) has been canceled.

1. Examine Boston's Jewish history through synagogue architecture and art. Brandeis University's Ellen Smith will give a talk at the Newton Free Library tonight at 7 p.m. "The program will highlight the ways in which synagogue architecture speaks to a community's history, sense of self and how it hopes to portray itself to the larger community."

2. There's a joint meeting tonight of the Board of Aldermen and School Committee during which a presentation of the Angier Elementary School 50 percent schematic design will be made. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers at Newton City Hall.

3. It's Monday and that means it's time for another Bike Newton evening group bike ride. The rides depart from the Newton Free Library at 6 p.m., so plan to arrive at 5:45. 

4. The Planning and Development Board will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. Among items on the agenda, the board will discuss Riverside project.
