8 Newton City Councilors Endorse Mara Dolan For Governor’s Council
Dolan is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petito Devaney in the Democratic primary, which will take place on September 6.

NEWTON, MA —On Monday, eight Newton City Councilors endorsed public defender Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council, District 3.
The eight Newton City Councilors are Vice Chair Richard Lipof, Alicia Bowman, Deb Crossley, Andreae Downs, Andrea Kelley, Alison Leary, Becky Grossman, and Holly Ryan.
The Governor's Council is made up of eight elected Councilors who vet and vote on judicial nominations, commutations and pardons, and members of the Parole Board. Dolan seeks the Democratic nomination for District 3, which includes parts of Boston, all of Arlington, Brookline, Newton, Waltham, and her hometown of Concord among its 32 cities and towns.

“It’s high time Newton was represented by someone who shares our values – Mara Dolan is that person,” Downs said in a statement.
“Mara Dolan supported me from the beginning and is a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community,” Ryan said in a statement. "She has shown over and over that she has the values and character we need in the Governor’s Council. With her work for racial and social justice as a public defender, I give her my very enthusiastic endorsement.”
