Boston College to Honor Former Athlete, Sept. 11 Hero
The BC athletic program will honor BC graduate and athlete Welles Crowther at tomorrow's women's lacrosse game in Newton.

Boston College will take time this weekend to honor one of its former students and athletes who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
During the women's lacrosse game tomorrow, March 30, the school and athletic program will remember Welles Crowther, a former BC men's lacrosse player and a 1999 BC graduate.
The "#19 Red Bandana Game" (Crowther's jersey number) will include a special ceremony that will honor Crowther's family and the men's lacrosse team, according to an email sent from BC Athletics.

According to the BC Athletics email, Crowther was working at one of the Twin Towers in New York City when the planes struck the buildings on Sept. 11, 2001.

"On September 11, one of our own sacrificed his life to save the lives of at least 12 other individuals. Welles Crowther...heroically helped save the lives of several individuals after the tower in which he work was struck," the email read.
Crowther, who was originally from Upper Nyack, N.Y., was an equities trader with Sandler O'Neil & Partners and was employed on the 104th floor of the South Tower, according to his obituary. He was just 24-years old when he died.
The red bandana theme of tomorrow's game will recognize the bandana Crowther reportedly used to cover his face and mouth while rescuing several people from the South Tower. Until he was identified months after the attacks, survivors who were rescued by Crowther knew him only as the man in the red bandana.
