Bowen Teacher Recognized as Awesome Teacher of the Year
A Bowen Elementary School kindergarten teacher is being recognized by mySchoolBucks.com.

The Newton School Committee last week recognized and accepted a gift for Bowen Elementary School that came as part of a Bowen teacher's Awesome Teacher of the Year Award.
Bowen kindergarten teacher Helen Sheehy won the Awesome Teacher of the Year Award from mySchoolBucks.com after numerous Bowen parents submitted nomination letters on her behalf, according to a press release from the school system. The letters focused on Sheehy's strengths and commitment as a teacher.
"Being a K teacher is not just a job to Mrs. Sheehy," wrote one parent, according to the press release. "She believes that our children will grow up someday to be President of the United States, or an astronaut, or some other highly successful individual and she tries her very hardest to prepare them. She believes that kindergarten is a very important year for a child's entire future and she makes sure her students have the best foundation possible.”

Bowen Principal Diana Guzzi said in the same release that she appreciates Sheehy's "dedication to student growth and learning, both academically and socially."
Guzzi said she was proud to work with Sheehy, whose teaching "is also a reflection of the work of many wonderful teachers."
