Cabot School Construction Project Moves Closer to Gaining State Funds

School and state officials have 270 days to show the project should receive the money.

Newton's Cabot Elementary School project will be eligible for state funds after state officials gave its approval this week.

On Wednesday, the  Massachusetts School Building Authority voted to invite the school into to the first phase of the school building grant program, according to a report in the Boston Globe

The school in Newtonville dates back to 1929. The project now is in a 270-day eligibility period, during which the state and city will work together to determine whether Newton is ready to begin the project and receive state money, the Globe reported.

Part of the project will be paid for by an $11.4 million Proposition 2 1/2 override passed in March, which will also pay for construction projects at Angier and Zervas elementary schools.
