Edward G. York, 85, Longtime Newton Resident and Firefighter
Visiting hours will be held today in Newton and a funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon.
Edward G. York, 85, a longtime Newton resident and Newton firefighter, passed away on Feb. 22.
York was born in Newton and worked as a Newton firefighter. He also served in the U.S. Army, according to his obituary.
York was married to the late Eleanor York and was a father of seven children. He also had 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ed will be remembered for his kind heart and loving ways. He reached out to many in times of need in his own humble way. For all who knew him he was a "song and dance man" at heart. May God bless him!

York's death was announced over the Newton Fire radio channel Thursday afternoon. According to those scanner reports, the flag at Newton Fire Headquarters will be at half staff for three days to honor York.
Visiting hours for York will be held today at the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home in Nonantum from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and again tomorrow, March 2, at 11 a.m. before the funeral Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. The Mass starts at noon. Burial will take place at Newton Cemetery.
