Firefighters Rescue Baby Turkeys From Storm Drain In Newton
A firefighter was able to climb down into a storm drain on Braeburn Road and rescue about four of the little birds Monday.

NEWTON, MA — You may have heard of firefighters climbing trees to rescue cats, but how about jumping into drains to help a turkey? That's just what happen Monday after a family of baby turkeys found themselves in the storm drain.
A firefighter was able to climb down into a storm drain on Braeburn Road and take about four of the little birds out.
The whole episode had us wondering, what is the proper term for a baby turkey, anyway? A poult or chick. A young male turkey is called a jake and a young female is called a jenny. Once they mature a male turkey is called a tom or a gobbler and a female turkey a hen. A group of wild turkeys is a flock, a group of domesticated turkeys is commonly referred to as a rafter.
