Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 19

A baseball game, a movie screening and counseling is available at City Hall.

1. Counseling available. For anyone who needs to talk to a counselor about the recent Boston Marathon bombings, the city of Newton will offer free drop-in counseling today in the City Hall War Memorial from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Anyone who needs to speak to a counselor but cannot make it to the drop-in hours can contact the city's Health & Human Services Department at 617-796-1420.  

2. Russian cultural festival kicks off tonight. The "From Russia with Arts and Culture" festival will kick off tonight at the Newton Cultural Center wth an opening exhibit and reception from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. .

3. Go Tigers! The Newton North boys' varsity baseball team will face Catholic memorial in a home game today at 11 a.m. at Albemarle Field.

4. Special drop-off/recycling time for electronics. The Newton Resource and Recovery Center on Rumford Avenue hosts special Friday/Saturday drop-offs for electronics once per month. Today you can drop off electronics from 8 a.m. - noon. A full list of acceptable materials is available online. There will be a $12 charge to recycle each TV or computer monitor, and all other appliances and electronics accepted free-of-charge. Check or cash accepted, made payable to "CRT Recycling."

5. Movie screening. The Newton Free Library will host a screening today of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" from 2:30 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. in the Druker Auditorium. The program is free and open to anyone ages 13 and up.
