Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 22
School Committee meets, Finance Committee continues budget deliberations and library hosts "Greening Our Community" series.

1. School Committee. The Newton School Committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the Education Center. The committee's agenda items are scheduled to touch on student fees, the Common Core and a vote on the official last day of school.
2. Budget discussion continues. The Board of Aldermen's Finance Committee will continue its budget deliberations tonight with discussion around the city's IT, Human Resources and Executive department budgets. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will be held in room 222 at City Hall.
3. Restaurant seminar series. The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar this afternoon titled "Facebook for Restaurants." The program is open to individuals in the restaurant/hospitality industry interested in learning how to use Facebook to connect with customers. The seminar will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Boston Showcase Company, 66 Winchester St.

4. "Greening Our Community" series. Courtney Forrester and Elaine Gentile from Newton’s Department of Public Works will host a discussion tonight titled "Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Trash and Recycling," the event, which is co-sponsored by Green Decade/Newton, will be held at the Newton Free Library and starts at 7 p.m.
5. Go Lions! The Newton South girls' varsity softball team will face Lincoln-Sudbury in a home game today at Newton South. Game time is 4 p.m.
