Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 5
Local theatre, an art reception and a softball home opener.

1. Art reception. The New Art Center will host an opening reception tonight for its latest exhibit, "From the City to the World." The exhibit features "urban art" – artwork that reflects on city life – by four visual artists and several writers and video makers. Tonight's reception will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
2. Pinkberry is OPEN. The frozen yogurt shop officially opens to the public today at The Street in Chestnut Hill. It's located behind the new Shake Shack in the former Rugged Bear building, 49 Boylston St. A celebration was held last night where patrons received free froyo.
3. Theatre Ink presents..."Spontaneous Generation" tonight at 7:30 p.m. The show will run April 3-6 at Newton North High School's Little Theatre. Tickets are $7 and available online.

4. Tomorrow: GELF benefit dinner. Newton's Global Education Leadership Fund will hold a special benefit dinner tomorrow, April 6 at American Legion Post 440. The dinner will benefit the GELF program, which helps provide scholarships to Newton students studying abroad. The evening will include international food and fine wines served to you by Newton administrators, including Superintendent David Fleishman! Tickets are $7.24 for a single seat or $37.95 for a table of eight. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
5. Softball home opener. The Newton South girls' varsity softball team will host Waltham this afternoon at its 2013 home opener. The game starts at 4 p.m. at Newton South.
