Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 14

1. Art exhibit reception. The New Art Center will host a reception tonight for the opening of its latest exhibit "This Larger Truth." The exhibit is a project exhibition inspired by John Murray, a New Art Center painting faculty member, and curated by Kathleen Smith, the New Art Center exhibitions director. Tonight's free reception starts at 6 p.m.

2. Live performance with Low Strung. Cello rock ensemble Low Strung will perform today at the Carroll Center for the Blind. The Yale University-based group will give a free concert starting at 3:30 p.m.

4. Women in the Civil War. Join Professor Charles Kindregan of Suffolk University Law School for a lecture on women in the Civil War tonight at the Jackson Homestead and Museum. The event celebrates both Women's History Month and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. The free lecture starts at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. 

5. Wally's is OPEN for the season! It may be Pi Day, but it's an ice cream day in Auburndale. Wally's Wicked Good Ice Cream opens for the season at 1 p.m.
