Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 7

A town hall meeting, an author event and the history of the village of Auburndale.

1. "A City of Villages" Newton History Series. Historic Newton and the Newton Free Library will host another installment of its 2013 Newton History Series "A City of Villages" tonight at the Newton Free Library. The event will be held at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 

2. Latest forecast. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Newton area as rain and snow are expected throughout today and into tomorrow. The Boston area is likely to get a mix of rain and snow, with 3-6 inches of heavy, wet snow to fall by tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service warns that travel tonight may get a bit slick as temperatures dip. A wind advisory is also in effect until Friday night. Stay tuned to Patch for weather updates. 

3. Mayor's town hall meeting. Mayor Setti Warren will host another town hall meeting tonight to discuss his $11.4 million proposed override. The meeting will be held at Mason-Rice Elementary School at 7 p.m.

4. Author event. Jamie Quatro, author of I Want to Show You More, and Megan Mayhew Bergman, author of Birds of a Lesser Paradise will stop by Newtonville Books tonight for an author event at 7 p.m.

5. Update on Special Education at the Newton Public Schools. NPS has posted a summary of last week's special education discussion during the Newton School Committee meeting.
