Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 2

High school theatre, an auction and the MIAA tournament.

1. Check out some high school theatre. Tonight is the second night of Theatre Ink's "Rumors" at Newton North and South Stage's "The House of Bernarda Alba" at Newton South. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $7 ("Rumors") and $8 ("Bernarda Alba").

2. Joe Kennedy III to speak to Newton-Needham Chamber. Fourth Congressional District candidate Joe Kennedy III will address the chamber this afternoon at 8 a.m. The event will take place at the Newton Healthcare Center, 2101 Washington St. Kennedy's opponent, Sean Bielat, did a similar event with the chamber last month.

3. Boys & Girls Club Annual Auction. The John M. Barry Boys and Girls Club will hold its annual fundraising auction tonight at the American Legion Post 440 in Nonantum. "Club 440" will feature silent auctions, live auctions, jazz, cocktails, food and more.

4. Tournament game. Newton North's varsity field hockey team (No. 7) will face off against Peabody today in a North Division 1 first round tournament match. The game will take place at 2 p.m. at Newton North.

5. Enter the Patch (human) Halloween contest. We've extended our deadline for Halloween costume contest entries to Nov. 5 at 11:59 p.m. . And, while you're at it, vote in our pet Halloween costume contest (that winner receives a $50 gift card).
