Four-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Newton

Firefighters responded to a report of a blaze at 54 Gray Cliff Road around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

NEWTON, MA — A massive four-alarm fire destroyed a home in Newton Friday night, reported Boston 25 News.

Firefighters responded to a report of a blaze at 54 Gray Cliff Road around 10:30 p.m. and found flames consuming the multi-level home.

The fire took over three hours to knock down, during which time crews blocked off the area . A large part of the 5,000-square-foot home collapsed due to significant damage.

“It’s a total collapse,” Deputy Fire Chief Eric Fricke told Boston 25. "Most of what we’re looking at is the roof from what used to be three stories up in the air from down on the ground and obviously everything between those two points doesn’t exist anymore."

No injuries were reported and the home was empty when the fire started, officials said.

“No homeowners were home at the time of the fire, so with this large of a house, with this much fire on arrival, I’m just happy everyone got out safe and sound,” Fricke said.

"We would like to thank all the mutual aid companies who helped not only at our 4 alarm fire on Grey Cliff Rd but also to cover our stations as well,” the Newton Fire Department Tweeted. "Mutual aid is essential for large fires like this.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no further information has been released.
