Good Week for One Newton Football Team, Not So Much for the Other
Newton North hosted Braintree, while Newton South traveled to Acton-Boxborough.

Newton North enjoyed an easy win on Saturday, but Newton South did not fare so well on Friday night.
The Tigers rolled to a 20-point lead in the first quarter against visiting Braintree. Mike Gately scored on a 2-yard run, then Jack Boucher scored twice - the first on a catch from Christian Cox and the second on a 12-yard run, according to the Boston Globe report.
Cox threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Denucci in the second quarter and Newton North enjoyed a 27-6 halftime lead. In the third, Boucher threw a 40-yard TD pass to Denucci. The Tigers prevailed 34-13.
Newton South scored first on a Nick Heras run against Acton-Boxborough, but the Lions struggled against the hosts. A-B scored three touchdowns before Heras scored again on a 35-yard run. South trailed 21-14 at half, according to the Boston Globe report.
Acton-Boxborough scored three more times in the second half, with the Lions responding only once on a 37-yard run by Mason Spence. The final was A-B 40, Newton South 21.
Next week, Newton North (2-2) plays at Weymouth on Saturday at 4 p.m. While Newton South (2-2) plays at Westford at 7 p.m. on Friday.
