Hess-Mahan Pulls Papers for Both Mayor and Alderman Races
The Newton Election's Office confirmed that Ward 3 Alderman Ted Hess-Mahan has picked up papers to challenge incumbent Mayor Setti Warren in November's election.

Newton's 2013 mayoral race is officially contested.
Reports surfaced Friday that current Ward 3 Alderman Ted Hess-Mahan had indicated his intention to run for the mayoral seat currently held by Setti Warren.
The Newton Election Office confirmed Monday that beyond confirming to various individuals his intention to run, Hess-Mahan did, in fact, pick up nomination papers on Friday, June 8, for the mayoral race.

Warren pulled papers to run for re-election to the mayor's seat on May 3, just days after the nomination papers became available.

Hess-Mahan told Village 14 that he is running for both positions in part because he's had difficulty convincing anyone to run for the Ward 3 seat, though he wouldn't be running for mayor if he didn't think he could win.
Hess-Mahan was first elected alderman in 2003, according to his Newton government profile page. He currently chairs the Land Use Committee and serves on the Programs & Services Committee and Rules Subcommittee.
