Man Accused Of Attacking Newton Police Officers Jailed: Report

The suspect left one officer temporarily knocked out during the brawl, police said.

NEWTON, MA — A man who is accused of punching two Newton officers in the back of the head during a domestic violence call Saturday night was ordered to be held in jail Monday, NBC Boston reports.

Juan Gonzalez, whose name was not initially released by police, reached for the officers’ weapons and punched both officers in the head, according to a statement by the Newton Police Department on Facebook, with one officer becoming temporarily unconscious.

“They were able to intervene but not before becoming victims themselves,” according to the statement.

Both officers received medical attention at Newton Wellesley Hospital and were later released.
