New Petition Supports Outdoor Dining In Newton
Some of the state outdoor dining rules expire early next year, leaving it up to municipalities to update their guidelines.
NEWTON, MA — The Charles River Regional Chamber (CRRC) has launched a petition to support the post-pandemic continuation of outdoor dining in Newton.
The petition serves as a way to encourage Newton’s government officials to do everything they can to ensure that Newton’s outdoor dining scene continues after some of the state outdoor dining rules expire early next year, leaving it up to municipalities to update their guidelines.
"Outdoor dining has been wonderful for Newton’s diners and businesses,” the petition reads. "But because some of the state rules that allowed restaurants to operate outdoors during the pandemic expire on March 31, 2023, the city must quickly enact new rules and regulations to allow outdoor dining to continue.”

CRRC is arguing that future outdoor dining regulations in the city should include allowing patios in the public way and restaurants to operate in private parking lots.
"Signing this petition will only take a minute. But will really help draw attention to this effort,” CRRCPresident Greg Reibman said in an email.
