New Sidewalks Coming To Newton Streets
Two large grants will be used to fund the majority of the work.
NEWTON, MA — The city is combining two grants worth a total of nearly $1 million to implement a mile of new sidewalk.
Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced Friday that a $500,000 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and a $487,000 grant from Opus Newton to fund the sidewalk that will be installed along the north side of Nahanton Street from Wells Avenue to Dedham Street. According to Fuller, high-visibility crosswalks are also slated to be part of the project at Nahanton intersections on Dedham Street, Winchester Street, and Wells Avenue.
Construction is scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2026.
