Newton Firefighters, Teachers, More Renew Contracts

The firefighters' union and city have ratified a new three-year contract.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton Firefighters Local 863 and the City of Newton unanimously agreed on a new contract Thursday morning, according to a release from Mayor Ruthanne Fuller.

The new three-year contract will run through June 2023 and the mayor said it will be great for the city.

Union President Firefighter Marc Rizza thanked Fuller and the negotiating team, according to the mayor's release.

"On behalf of the Newton Firefighters, I want to thank Mayor Fuller and her negotiating team for reaching a fair contract and for continuing to show us her respect," Union President Firefighter Marc Rizza said.

The firefighter contract wasn't the only one recently renewed. The Newton Teachers Association and the Newton Custodians Association ratified new contracts with the School Committee, and the Teamsters Local 25 ratified their new contract on Dec. 3.
