NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton will host its annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1-4 p.m. at City Hall.

Residents are invited to fling, toss, and smash their pumpkins in many different ways, including with smashing machines made by the Newton Ligerbots.

The purpose of the event is to encourage composting by taking orange pumpkins and turning them “green.” All smashed pumpkins will be composted by the city’s curbside composting partner Black Earth Compost, reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions and nourishing the soil.
