Newton Making Plans For Public Plaza
The temporary space will occupy the parking lot of a popular location on Langley Road.

NEWTON, MA — Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced that the city is working to repurpose a portion of Langley Place’s parking lot into a temporary public plaza.
Similar spaces have been established at Bram Way in Newtonville and The Street on Chestnut Hill. Fuller describes the upcoming Langley Place area as a fun and safe 16,000 square-foot space that will be adjacent to the Newton Green.
“We’re envisioning seating for outdoor dining, play spaces for youngsters and families, and space for art, community and culture,” Fuller said.

Fuller emphasized that the implementation of the plaza will be a trial to determine if a third location is necessary and beneficial to residents. The Department of Public Works has identified 67 nearby parking spaces in an effort to offset the loss of 51 that would come with the installation of the public plaza.
“We will not remove the pavement so that following the trial period it could be returned to parking,” Fuller said.
