Newton Man Arraigned on Attempted Murder Charge
The charge stems from a stabbing incident that occurred on April 23.

A Newton teen was held on $2,500 cash bail today following an arraignment in Newton District Court for a charge of attempted murder.
William Martin, 19, of 36 Deforest Road, was also ordered to be held under house arrest if he posts bail, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.

The incident occurred on Deforest Road in Newton Lower Falls and the victim was transported to Beth Israel Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The DA's office told Newton Patch this afternoon that the Commonwealth requested Martin be held on $25,000 bail in addition to house arrest. The Commonwealth also requested the judge revoke the bail for another case where Martin is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute (Class D drugs).

However, the judge decided to set bail at $2,500. In addition to the house arrest orders, Martin must stay away from the victim, not use drugs or alcohol and submit to random drug/alcohol screenings, the DA's office said.
Martin is due back in court on May 13 for a probable cause hearing, the DA's office said.
