Newton Native Is First Trans Attorney In Supreme Court: Report

Chase Strangio first came out as transgender while in law school.

NEWTON, MA — Native Chase Strangio became the first openly transgender attorney to argue before the Supreme Court Wednesday, according to a report from The Boston Globe.

The Northeastern University graduate will be representing Tennessee families who are opposed to the state’s ban on healthcare for transgender minors.

Strangio is the co-director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s LGBTQ and HIV Project. He has defended transgender and LGBTQ+ rights on numerous occasions, including when he represented former Army Intelligence Analyst Chelsea Manning, who challenged a ban on trans people in the military.
