Newton North Remembers Classmate Who Died Over the Weekend
The high school mourned the loss of a classmate who loved life and art.

Newton North senior Karen Douglas was remembered by her classmates for her love of life and passion for her art.
Douglas' body was found late Saturday night in the woods in Natick after she went missing on Thursday. No foul play is suspected, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.
A story in the Newton North newspaper, The Newtonite, recalled Douglas' love of needlework and cross-stitching. A moment of silence was held for Douglas and the Old Grannies Club, which Douglas founded, met Monday afternoon to remember their friend.
Douglas’s sister, Sonya, reached out to the community on Reddit, to thank those who shared her picture on social media and offered to search for her, according to The Newtonite.
Newton North Principal Jennifer Price wrote an open letter to the school announcing Douglas' death and to express condolences.
"Our thoughts are with Karen’s family during this difficult time. Karen will long be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, warm smile and love of crafts and sunflowers. Karen’s parents want others to know that she had been struggling with personal issues for a while and she was receiving significant support," Price wrote.
The letter also includes places where students can turn if they need help dealing with the loss of their friend and classmate. See the letter here, on The Newtonite website.
Plans for a memorial service have not been announced.
