Newton Police Blotter: Theft, Breaking And Entering, More

Here's some of what Newton police have been up to this week.

NEWTON, MA — Newton police sends Patch copies of their arrest records and other police activity, showing the community who was arrested for what. Charges listed below do not indicate guilt or conviction; they solely indicate accusations of offenses having been committed.

Monday, Dec. 16

An officer went to Colella Road on a report of a past breaking and entering. The officer found the rear sliding door shattered and open, and the victim said he thought the break in occurred between 5 p.m. and when he called at 8:51 p.m. He thought three packs of cigarettes had been taken from a carton and left on a chair in his bedroom.

A victim reported a larceny on Day Street between Dec. 12 and the morning of Dec. 16, when somebody stole cash from the glove compartment of his car. He forgot about the money and went to retrieve it but it was gone, and that he rarely locks his car.

Around 3 p.m., police went to a past larceny call at Sur La Table in the Chestnut Hill Mall. The victim said household goods were stolen over the past four weeks, including six Jure S8 coffee machines and three Wolf blenders. The items would have required a ladder to reach, the victim said.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

Police responded to the Wegmans on Boylston Street on a shoplifting call. They ended up arresting a 66-year-old man from Dorchester for shoplifting by asportation.

Thursday, Dec. 19

Police arrested Timothy O'Brien, 31, of Boston on a DUI charge. The arresting officer reported he saw an SUV driving slowly after hearing a "loud thudding sound" and metal scraping on the ground. He pulled the SUV over and when he knocked on the window O'Brien "looked at me with a blank stare." When he got the door open, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol and arrested O'Brien on OUI charges.

An officer responded to Hagen Road on a destruction of property call. The caller said two weeks ago, somebody cut one of her strands of Christmas lights in her front yard.
