Newton Police Log: Man Tries to Out Run Police, Three Busted with Pot

The following arrest information was supplied by the Newton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 15:

The manager at Kate Spade in the Chestnut Hill Mall told police that three bags were missing from the store. The previous day a woman came in to look at the same three bags, but did not buy any. The woman is described as a middle aged white woman, with dirty blonde hair, about 5-foot-6 and heavyset.

An officer on patrol at Elm and River Streets spotted a car being driven by a person he knew had a suspended license and tried to pull him over. When he put on his sirens, the car accelerated and got up to 55 mph in a 30 mph zone. The car then turned onto Warren Street and went the wrong way down a one-way street. The driver ran a stop sign turning onto Webster Street and then turned on to Cherry Street. He pulled into a driveway and tried to run into the house. James F. Fennell III, 51, of 400 Cherry St. Apt. 5 in Newton, was arrested on charges of speeding, failing to stop, failing to signal, failing to stop for police, and driving with a suspended license – a subsequent offense.
