Newton Police Log: Sneaky Thief; Indecent Exposure; Man Bites Police Officer

Car break-in

Newton Police responded to Arlington Street on April 11 after a resident reported someone broke into an unlocked Volkswagen Jetta and an unlocked Subaru Forester sometime between April 8 at 8 p.m. and April 9 at 7 p.m., reports said.

Break-in on Botsford Road

A Botsford Road resident told police on April 11 that someone broke into her home and stole her Apple MacBook and Kindle Fire from her first floor bedroom.

According to reports, the theft happened sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Both the front and side door of the home were left unlocked.

Thief sneaks into home

Newton Police responded to Langley Road on April 11 after a woman reported someone had broken into her home.

According to reports, the woman was home around 3:30 p.m. on April 11 when she heard someone knocking at the front door. Then, she heard someone knocking at the back door. When she went to the back door, she was met by a man who said he was helping a neighbor install a fence along her property line and wanted her to come outside and take a look at the work in case she had any concerns. 

The alleged worker, who was described as a "not too young" white male, told the woman he was running to his truck to pick up a business card. Once he got in the vehicle, he sped off down Boylston Street. 

Later in the day, when the woman went upstairs, she noticed someone had rummaged through several drawers in both bedrooms. The suspect took a pillow case from the bed and stole several pieces of jewelry as well as cash from the dresser, reports said. 

No soliciting, please

An 18-year-old Newton man will be facing charges in court after he was allegedly soliciting door-to-door. 

According to reports, Newton Police responded to Verndale Road on April 12 for a reported solicitor described as a black man with tan pants carrying a white notebook. Police located the man at Heatherland Road and Upland Road, reports said. 

The man will face charges of violating city ordinance for soliciting door-to-door without a permit as well as carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. 

Alleged drunk driver hits parked car

A Boston man was arrested on April 14 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol. 

According to reports, police responded to Brookside Avenue for reports of an erratic operator who hit a parked car. 

After locating the vehicle, police spoke with the driver who reportedly had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. He was also unsteady on his feet, police said, and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Vidmantas Plioplys, 60, of 444 Harrision St. #4022, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger, police said. 

Indecent exposure in Auburndale

Police responded to Melrose Street on April 14 after a woman reported that a man had exposed himself to her while she was walking her dog.

According to reports, the woman was walking near the area of Woodland Road and Hancock Street  when she was approached by a white male in his late teens/early twenties. The man was wearing a green winter hat and grey sweat pants. 

The woman told police she tried to walk around the man but he walked up to her and exposed his penis to her without saying anything. The woman then walked away and went straight home to call police. 

The male party left the area and headed toward Lasell College, reports said. Police checked the area with negative results. 

Theft at a liquor store

Police responded to Upper Falls Liquors on April 14 after an employee reported a man hid an item under his jacket and fled the store.

According to reports, the suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, about 5'8" tall, wearing a brown jacket.

The employee said he chased the suspect to the rear of Mick Morgan's Pub before losing him. Police searched the area with negative results.

Stolen trash barrel

A Ripley Street resident came in to Newton Police Headquarters on April 14 to report that his city trash barrel was stolen sometime on April 11. 

Warrant arrest

While patrolling near Saw Mill Brook Parkway on April 15, a Newton Police officer spotted two males open the exterior door of a home and then try to open the interior door. As the officer drove by the two men, they "appeared nervous" and turned down a path as the officer approached.

According to reports, the officer then stopped the two men and asked for identification. After running the information, the officer found one man had a warrant out for his arrest. 

Vladimir Ochisor, 23, of 171 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale, was arrested on a warrant out of Charlestown District Court for speeding and suspended operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Man bites police officer on Marathon Monday

While working a detail on Commonwealth Avenue on Marathon Monday (April 15), Newton Police were notified of a man who was running around Commonwealth Avenue screaming "the world is going to end." 

Shortly after the broadcast, an officer heard someone on Commonwealth Avenue yelling and noticed that the man matched the description given out over the radio of the man yelling about the world ending, reports said. 

Police then saw then man attempt to break into a Commonwealth Avenue home by pushing against a door and eventually kicking in the door, reports said. 

When approached by police, then man attempted to roll and flee from police. The man then bit a Newton Police officer on the left hand as well as on the inner left knee. 

As a result, Victor Manuele Lopez, 21, of 72 American Legion Highway #1, Dorchester, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and disorderly conduct, police said. 

Warrant arrest

Newton Police were dispatched to Auburn Street at Commonwealth Avenue on April 15 for reports of a fight in progress. 

Once police arrived on scene, they found several people near Brae Burn Country Club, reports said. After identifying all the people, police found one man had a warrant out for his arrest.

Donald R. Washington, 18, of 125 Fairmount St., Dorchester, was arrested on a warrant out of Dorchester District Court for underage possession of alcohol and resisting arrest, police said.
