Newton Police to Step Up Crosswalk Enforcement, Bicycle Safety
The increased efforts come thanks to a grant the department received.

It's always important to watch for pedestrians in crosswalks and for bicyclists sharing Newton's roads, but Newton Police will spend the summer making extra sure drivers are paying attention.
Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS), the Newton Police Department plans to increase its crosswalk enforcement and bicycle safety efforts in 2013, but particularly during the summer months.
According to a press release from the department, Newton Police will conduct "targeted enforcement of pedestrian crossings violations throughout the city" and will use law enforcement "decoys" to further address the "crosswalk problem."
