Newton Ranks #2 Safest U.S. City To Raise A Family: Report

NEWTON, MA — Newton has ranked #2 on a SafeWise report of the 50 safest cities to raise a family in 2022.

The last time SafeWise released this report was 2020, when Newton ranked #3 on the list. In 2019, the city ranked #2.

According to the report, Newton had the third lowest property crime rate (5.51 per 1,000 residents) and the fourth lowest violent crime rate (0.54) among all the cities analyzed.

In addition, Newton tied with Santa Clarita, CA for the second-lowest rate of sex offenders per capita. Both cities had 0.05 sex offenders per 1,000 residents. Only six cities had a sex offender rate of less than 0.1.

The only other Massachusetts city that made the Top 50 list is Somerville, which ranked #40, according to SafeWise.
