Newton’s Alvernia High School Closing at End of Academic Year: Report

Students at the Newton all-girls Catholic high school will join Fontbonne Academy in Milton, reports WHDH.

NEWTON, MA – Mount Alvernia High School will close at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, bringing its 50-year history at 790 Centre Street to an end, reports WHDH News 7.

In a letter to the school community, the Mount Alvernia High School Board of Directors said the founders who own the property, the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (MFIC), are unable to continue living on the property and will sell it.

Administrators said students in good standing will be admitted to Fontbonne Academy, a private college preparatory high school and early college for girls in Milton, after the school’s closure.
