Newton’s West Suburban YMCA Raises $130K At Annual Gala
The event recognized retiring board chair Ned Morse's six decades of involvement with the Y.
NEWTON, MA — The West Suburban YMCA raised over $130,000 at its Annual Gala on Saturday, Nov. 5, funds that will support the nonprofit organization’s many programs and services.
The event was the organizations first full-scale, in person pandemic since the pandemic started and recognized retiring board chair Ned Morse’s six decades of involvement with the Y. Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller presented Morse with a Mayoral Proclamation of Achievement.
The Y well surpassed its $100,000 fundraising goal for the 2022 gala. Guests were encouraged to wear flapper dresses, jazz suits, and other festive period attire to match the “Roaring Twenties” theme.

Boston sports personality Nick “Fitzy” Stevens, a longtime friend of the Y, emceed the evening with his trademark comedy and passion. The gala also included a cocktail hour, seated dinner catered by Bakers’ Best, live music by East Coast Soul, an auction and prizes.
The event was organized by a Gala Committee composed of Karen Bogard, Kristina Carroll, Emily Flynn, Andy Gluck, Aaron Goldman, Ellen Grody, Martha Hanlon, Pam Haslam, Cindy Laughrea, Andrea Newman, Sara Pollock DeMedeiros, Nick Stevens, and Heather Sundram.
