Nomination Period Open for 2013 Business Excellence Awards

The awards are spearheaded by the Newton Economic Development Commission.

Newton's Economic Development Commission and Mayor Setti Warren are once again looking to recognize the best of the best in Newton businesses.

Nominations are being sought for the 2013 Business Excellence Awards, which are  intended to recognize "businesses, individuals and organizations who have contributed to and expanded the vitality of the city’s village centers, advanced business attraction, and improved the overall economic development climate of the city," according to a press release.

Web-based applications to nominate potential award winners are now available at www.newtonma.gov/promotion. Completed applications must be submitted by Wednesday, Sept. 4.

There are five categories in which a nominee can be considered: The Village Business Awards (up to one per village), The Destination Business Award, The Citizen Champion Award, Community Business Award, and The Jerry Adams Award.

Inaugural winners among the categories included Bocca Bella Cafe and Bistro, Paddy's Pub, Green Planet Kids, Dunn-Gaherin's Food and Spirits, and the Newton Cultural Alliance, among others.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Newton War Memorial (located at Newton City Hall) from 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. Last year, according to the press release, more than 200 individuals attended the inaugural award ceremony.

"I join Mayor Setti Warren in looking forward to another outstanding event and another opportunity to honor businesses that are thriving here in Newton,” said Darryl Settles, chair of the Economic Development Commission.
