Picket Line Protesting Nuclear War Scheduled In Newton

The Newton picket line will be held on Friday, Oct. 14 from 12-1 p.m. at the office of Rep. Jake Auchincloss.

NEWTON, MA — On Friday, October 14, community members will form informational picket lines at the local offices of Congresspeople across the country to call for urgent steps to reduce the risks of nuclear war, including a picket at the Newton office of Rep. Jake Auchincloss.

The picket lines come ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, widely regarded as the closest the world has ever come to nuclear war until this year.

"The dangers of nuclear war have risen sharply in recent months, and a coalition of nearly 100 organizations has come together to educate the public and call on elected officials to de-escalate tensions,” organizers from Defuse Nuclear War said in a news release.
