Police Investigating Rash of Car Breaks in Newton Centre
Residents are reminded to lock their car doors and remove valuables from the vehicles.

The Newton Police Department is currently investigating a rash of car breaks that occurred overnight in Newton Centre.
According to Newton Police, the majority of the car break-ins occurred on streets near the intersection of Langley Road and Beacon Street, including Elgin Street and Leeson Lane.
Police said roughly a dozen break-ins were reported, all of which happened late Tuesday night (April 2) or early this morning.

In almost all cases, the cars were left unlocked, police said. As of 2 p.m. Wednesday (April 3), police had filed roughly have of the break-in reports, which included:
- An unlocked black Acura parked in a driveway off Elgin Street entered sometime between 10 p.m. Tuesday at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.
- A Volkswagen Passat and Acura MDX parked off Elgin Street were entered sometime between 10:15 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday. Resident reported hearing a car door close around 1 p.m.
- An unlocked Subaru parked off Elgin Street was entered sometime overnight.
- An unlocked Chevy Malibu parked off Elgin Street was entered sometime overnight.
- Two unlocked Toyota Camrys parked off Elgin Street were entered sometime overnight.
- GMC Terrain parked off Elgin Street was entered sometime overnight.
Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and to remove any valuables from cars. If residents see something suspicious, they should call the Newton Police at 617-796-2100.
