Busting Hotel Party; Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes into Snowbank

Restraining order violation

Police arrested a Newton resident on March 9 after he allegedly violated a restraining order, police said.

Daniel F. Shulman, 21, of 142 Farwell St., was arrested on a warrant for violating an abuse prevention order, police said.

Car break-in

A Park Drive resident told police on March 9 that his two cars, which were parked in his driveway, were broken into sometime overnight.

According to reports, the owner left both his Toyota and his Hyundai unlocked in the driveway. When he went to the cars in the morning, he found the center consoles and glove compartments in both cars were open.

Stolen wallet

Police responded to the Chestnut Hill Star Market on March 9 after a shopper reported her wallet was stolen.

According to reports, the woman noticed her wallet was missing when she was at the checkout counter. She told police she had her purse in her shopping cart while she was at the store and believes someone took the wallet out of her bag while she was shopping.

Driver crashes into snowbank, arrested for OUI

A Newton man was arrested on March 10 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and crashed his truck into a snowbank.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the area of 194 California St. around 4:20 a.m. for reports of a truck that hit a snow bank. When police arrived on scene, they found a Dodge Ram truck that had moderate damage to the front left corner of the vehicle, with parts hanging from below.

The truck was also located on the wrong side of the road and stopped at an angle that blocked traffic.

Police spoke with the driver and determined he had been driving under the influence.

Eric Alan Ferraro, 26, of 27 Walnut St., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for a marked lanes violation and leaving the scene of property damage, police said.

Party at the Marriott...not so much

A Dorchester man was arrested on March 10 after Newton Police responded to the Newton Marriott for reports of unwanted parties at the hotel.

Police were called to the hotel after Marriott staff received several noise complaints for a particular room. Both hotel security and police asked six people (two females and four males), who were not registered, to leave the hotel.

Beer cans were reportedly strewn throughout the room, reports said.

Police said they asked the parties to leave in a "reasonable manner", however, several parties continued to be "loud and rude" as they left the hotel.

The two females eventually left in a car, but the four males refused to submit to a field sobriety test and would not leave. One male attempted to call for a ride, but was unsuccessful. Police also offered to call a cab, but the men refused, reports said.

Police warned the males that they needed to leave the hotel grounds or face arrest for trespassing. Eventually, three of the males left on foot. One male, though, refused to leave.

As a result, Jamal Hakiym McCollum, 20, of 10 Sonoma St. #6, was arrested and charged with trespassing, police said.

Warrant arrest

A Newton man was arrested on March 11 on two warrants out of Waltham District Court, reports said.

Fernando Samper, 32, of 70 High St., was arrested on warrants for payment default, police said.

Assault charges

A Newton woman was arrested on March 11 after police responded to High Street for reports of a domestic disturbance.

Elizabeth Thurlow, 47, of 70 High St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police said.
